Work in the Netherlands as a nurse

Are you looking for work in the Netherlands? And are you an EU certified nurse (or nursing student)? Then Pleyade is just the right fit for you. Since we’re experiencing a serious lack of certified healthcare professionals here in the Netherlands, we can offer you various nursing jobs with good conditions such as a competitive salary and more than enough spare time.

In return, we expect you to provide the best care possible and that’s only possible if you’re able to understand a client’s needs. Therefore we have developed an educational program called the Eduployment Program in which you’ll be handed all the tools and knowledge you need to make your work in the Netherlands as a nurse a success.

The program is initially meant for already certified nurses, but there is also an internship program designed for nursing students. Interested in a Dutch nursing job? Check the full contents of the Eduployment Program and apply!

An overview of the Eduployment Program

Whether you already obtained a nursing degree or if you’re still studying to become a healthcare professional, both programs start with an introductory language course in which you’ll learn the basic and most important words in Dutch. If there are enough participants the course is given in your own home country. Otherwise, in consultation with you, you go to a course elsewhere. The course is, besides the required study app, free of charge.

For Erasmus students: Upon completing the course, we will invite you over for an internship to experience first hand what it means to work in the Netherlands as a nurse. You’ll get accustomed to the protocols in Dutch healthcare, while performing some activities of daily living for our clients and meeting your future co-workers. During this period free housing and free meals on internship days are arranged.

This allows you to use the Erasmus money for other things, such as the first flight to the Netherlands, discovering the country and having lots of fun.

At the end of the internship, you’ll decide if you want to continue to work in the Netherlands at Pleyade. You can quit with no strings attached. Continuing means you’ll roll into another course in which you’ll refine your Dutch language skills even further, right until you’ve reached the required level for passing the state exam and obtaining an official Dutch nurse registration. At this point, your healthcare career in Holland really takes off!

For certified nurses: we have a similar language program. However, this program is always full-time and intensive (every day of the week), so that you can start your Dutch introduction program faster.

During this introduction period in the Netherlands, you will be introduced to the work of the Dutch nurse, your colleagues and your care recipients, just like the Erasmus students. You don’t have an Erasmus scholarship, but that doesn’t matter, because Pleyade pays you a salary. Net, after the mandatory deduction of the rent for your living space, you have about € 1,200 left every month. In case of extra hours (more than 36 hours a week) you receive extra payment.

What’s it like for a nurse to work in the Netherlands?

Our nursing jobs consist primarily of caring for clients and patients in nursing homes, generic and psychiatric hospitals or in private clinics. Most of our jobs are situated in and around Arnhem, a vibrant city in the eastern part of the Netherlands, which is approximately an hour’s drive away from Amsterdam. Generally speaking, it is hard but very rewarding work. And as a nurse, that’s what matters the most.
