Why Do an Internship in the Netherlands?

The Netherlands offers a patient-centered, progressive healthcare system where collaboration, respect, and quality are key. You’ll become part of an international team, experience daily work life in a Dutch healthcare institution, and improve your clinical, cultural, and communication skills.

The experience is also an ideal opportunity to explore whether a long-term career in Dutch healthcare is something for you. Should you wish to stay, we offer clear next steps, such as a paid position and continued training through our CV-Boosting Programme.

Dutch Language Training: Your Foundation

To make the most of your internship, it’s essential to understand your colleagues and patients. That’s why the programme includes an online Dutch language course (approximately 80 lessons), focused on everyday and professional healthcare communication.

You’ll start this training in your home country, so by the time you arrive in the Netherlands, you’ll be confident and ready to fully participate. The training is fully sponsored by the Dutch healthcare provider. Only your digital textbooks need to be purchased and a small refundable deposit applies.

Housing: Comfort and Independence

Moving abroad is easier when you have a good place to land. You’ll receive the key to your own fully furnished, private studio, no shared rooms. It’s a safe, comfortable space where you can relax, focus on your work, and enjoy your free time.

The cost of housing is subsidised by the healthcare provider, giving you more financial freedom to explore the Netherlands, or even nearby cities like Paris, Berlin, or Brussels.

The Internship: Learn, Work, Grow

Once you reach A2 Dutch language level, you’ll begin your internship at a respected healthcare institution. Your schedule (up to 36 hours per week) is created together with you, leaving plenty of time for rest and discovery.

You’ll:

  • Work with patients in real care situations
  • Learn Dutch protocols, procedures, and tools
  • Be mentored by experienced healthcare professionals
  • Receive your own internship contract and personal guidance

And After Your Internship?

After 4 months, you can choose to extend your internship up to 12 months (if mutually agreed). Or, if you’re excited to stay and build your career in the Netherlands, you can transition into our CV-Boosting Programme which includes an employer-sponsored language training up to B1+ and a long term direct employment contract with the healthcare institution, subsidised housing and additional benefits. It’s your bridge from internship to full-time professional employment.
